An Off-Grid Pilgrimage in Far West Nepal
Badimalika is one of the major temples in Nepal, located in the remote Bajura district. The trek leads to the Badimalika temple which sits atop a hillock, surrounded by rolling green grasslands that look like the Scottish Highlands on steroids.
The unique feature of this trek is the vast stretches of alpine meadows known as 'Patans'. Walking through these endless green fields above the clouds, with views of Mt. Api and Saipal, is a surreal experience.
During the festival of Janai Purnima (August), thousands of pilgrims make the arduous journey to the temple. Joining them offers a fascinating look into the faith and resilience of the Nepali people.
There are no teahouses here. This is a fully self-sufficient camping trek. You need a guide who knows the area well, as trails can be indistinct. It is raw, rugged, and completely authentic.
If you are tired of mountains and want to see rolling high-altitude hills, or if you want to go where no other tourists go, Badimalika is the frontier of trekking in 2025.
