Boot Fitting Guide for Everest Base Camp

Preventing Blisters on the Long Walk

Happy Feet, Happy Trek

Your boots are your vehicle. If they fail, your Everest trekking adventure fails. Fitting them correctly is an art. Here is how to ensure comfort on the trail.

Size Up

Your feet will swell at altitude. Buy boots a half or full size larger than your street shoes. Your toes should not touch the front when walking downhill. This saves your toenails on the return from Everest Base Camp.

Hiking Boots Muddy
The Sock System

Wear a thin liner sock under a thick wool sock. This reduces friction on the skin, preventing blisters. Test this combo before your Mount Everest expedition.

Break Them In

Walk at least 50km in your boots before flying to Nepal. They need to mold to your feet. Never bring fresh boots to the Himalayas.

Lacing Matters

Learn to use the locking hooks. Tighten the ankle for downhills to prevent toe jam.
