Keeping Your Camera Alive on Everest
You climb to the Everest summit viewpoint, pull out your camera, and... dead battery. Cold kills chemical reactions in batteries. Here is how to keep them running.
Keep spare batteries in an inside pocket of your down jacket, close to your body heat. Never leave them in your backpack. Warm batteries work; cold ones don't.
At night, put your phone and batteries inside the foot of your sleeping bag. Your body heat keeps them charged. If you leave them on the bedside table, they will be dead by morning.
Your phone wastes energy searching for signal that doesn't exist. Keep it in Airplane Mode constantly. Turn off Bluetooth and GPS unless needed. Squeeze every drop of power for your Everest expedition photos.
Treat power like water. Conserve it, protect it, and use it wisely.
