The Trekker's Pharmacy: Medications for Everest

What to Carry in Your Mount Everest Expedition Med-Kit

Medicine at 5,000m

There are no drugstores near the Mount Everest summit. You must be self-sufficient. Having a well-stocked medical kit is a non-negotiable part of any Everest trekking plan.

Altitude Meds

Diamox is the most common. Some climbers also carry Dexamethasone as an emergency treatment for HACE. Always consult a travel doctor before your Mount Everest expedition.

First Aid Kit and Pills
Stomach and Infections

Carry a broad-spectrum antibiotic and plenty of rehydration salts. 'Khumbu Belly' is a real threat that can sap your energy on the way to Everest Base Camp.

Pain and Inflammation

Ibuprofen is your best friend for altitude headaches and sore knees. High-strength throat lozenges are also vital for treating the Khumbu Cough during your Everest trekking journey.

Be Prepared

A small kit can save your entire expedition. Pack smart and know how to use every medication in your bag.
