Choosing Between Everest Trekking and the Annapurna Sanctuary
Nepal's two most famous routes are Everest Base Camp (EBC) and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). While both lead to the heart of the mountains, the Everest trekking experience is vastly different from Annapurna.
EBC is higher (5,364m) and more physically demanding. ABC is lower (4,130m) and generally easier for beginners. If you want to see the Mount Everest summit, only EBC will satisfy that dream.
Everest is rugged, high-alpine, and dramatic. Annapurna is more lush, with rhododendron forests and terraced fields. The Mount Everest expedition region feels more like a gateway to the stars.
EBC is the heart of Sherpa culture. ABC offers a mix of Gurung and Magar traditions. Both offer incredible hospitality, but the Everest trekking path is steeped in mountaineering history.
Pick Everest for the ultimate high-altitude challenge and the Mount Everest summit views. Pick Annapurna for diversity and a gentler pace.
