Staying Connected on the Base Camp Trail
Everest Link is the dedicated ISP for the Khumbu region. They promise high-speed internet all the way to Base Camp. But does it work when you need to post that Mount Everest summit photo?
You buy data cards (10GB, 20GB) at lodges. You log in via a browser portal. It is much faster than satellite internet and cheaper than mobile roaming for your Everest trekking updates.
In clear weather, it is surprisingly fast—good enough for video calls. However, storms can knock out the relay stations, leaving the whole valley offline. Don't rely on it for critical Everest expedition safety comms.
It costs roughly $20 for 10GB. Given the remote location, it is a miracle of engineering. Being able to Face Time family from the foot of the Mount Everest summit is worth every penny.
It's not fiber optic. It's mountain WiFi. Be patient, and it will keep you connected to the world below.
