Choosing Your Route to the Summit
You can climb the Mount Everest summit from Nepal or Tibet. Each side offers a completely different expedition experience. Which one is right for you?
The classic route. Iconic trekking to Base Camp through Sherpa villages. It deals with the dangerous Khumbu Icefall but has better rescue infrastructure. It is the busier side of the mountain.
You drive to Base Camp. It is colder and windier. The climb follows the ridge. It avoids the Icefall but involves more time in the Death Zone on summit day. Politics can sometimes close this route.
China has upgraded the North side with paved roads and electricity. Nepal offers the traditional Everest trekking experience. Prices are comparable, but the vibe is worlds apart.
Do you want the history and trekking of Nepal, or the efficiency and wind of Tibet? Both lead to the same point: the top of the world.
