Essential Night Gear for Your Mount Everest Expedition
Because the Mount Everest summit push starts at midnight, your headlamp is your most important navigation tool. In the pitch black of Camp 4, a failing light can end your expedition.
You need a lamp with at least 300 lumens to see the route ahead. More importantly, it must have long battery life in extreme cold. Lithium batteries are mandatory for any Mount Everest expedition.
Many pro climbers use headlamps with a separate battery pack that stays inside their down suit. This keeps the batteries warm, ensuring the light doesn't dim during the Everest trekking peak climb.
Red light is used in the tents to preserve night vision. It’s a small feature that makes a big difference when checking your gear for the Mount Everest summit push at 2 AM.
The rule of the mountain is redundancy. Carry two headlamps and spare batteries. Don't be left in the dark on the way to the Everest summit.
