Trekking Everest in the Monsoon: Pros and Cons

Dealing with Rain and Leeches on the Trail

The Green Season

Most avoid the monsoon (June-August), but it has a unique beauty. The valleys are lush green, and flowers bloom. However, clouds often hide the Mount Everest summit.

The Cons

It rains almost every day. Leeches are common in the lower forests. Flights to Lukla are frequently cancelled for days. Views are not guaranteed on your Everest trekking trip.

Green Everest Landscape
The Pros

It is warm. There is no dust. The landscape is vibrant. You can see traditional farming life that is missed in other seasons. It is a quieter, softer side of the Everest expedition region.

Who is it For?

It is for botanists, culture lovers, and those who have trekked before. If seeing the Everest summit is your only goal, skip this season.

A Different Perspective

Monsoon trekking is wet but wild. It offers solitude and greenery rarely associated with Everest.
