Manaslu is becoming the new 'alternative' to Everest. Both offer 8,000m views, but the experience is totally different. Which expedition style suits you?
Everest is busy. You will never walk alone. Manaslu is restricted and quieter, though getting busier. If you want solitude, Manaslu wins. If you want social buzz, pick the Mount Everest expedition route.
Everest is Sherpa. Manaslu is Nupri (Tibetan). Manaslu feels more 'medieval' and untouched. Everest feels more developed with bakeries and wifi. It depends on how rustic you want to go.
Manaslu involves crossing the Larkya La pass (5,106m), which is a hard day. EBC has no pass unless you add Cho La. Manaslu is arguably physically tougher day-to-day.
Do EBC for the bucket list. Do Manaslu for the wilderness.
