Reach 6,476m with Non-Technical Climbing
Mera Peak is the highest 'trekking peak' in Nepal. Despite its height (6,476m), it is not technically difficult, involving mostly snow walking rather than vertical ice climbing. It provides the best panoramic view of the 8,000m peaks.
The approach to Mera Peak is an adventure in itself. You trek through the remote Hinku Valley, a wild region of dense forests and hanging glaciers. This slow approach helps significantly with acclimatization.
The climb starts from High Camp (5,800m). It is a long, steady trudge up the snow slope. The summit view is legendary: you can see Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga—five of the six highest mountains in the world.
You need to be very fit and comfortable with using crampons and an ice axe (basics are taught at base camp). It is colder and windier than trekking passes, so high-quality gear is non-negotiable.
If you have conquered EBC and want to go higher, or if you dream of climbing big mountains, Mera Peak is the perfect stepping stone.
