Nepal Visa and Trekking Permits: The Complete Guide

Navigating Paperwork for Your Mount Everest Expedition

The First Step to Everest

Before you hit the trails for your Everest trekking adventure, you need to clear the paperwork. Nepal's visa system is relatively easy, but trekking permits can be confusing.

Visa On Arrival

Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. You can fill out the 'Online Tourist Visa' form prior to arrival to save time. This is the first step for any Mount Everest expedition.

Permits for Everest Trekking
TIMS and National Park Fees

The Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card is mandatory. For Everest trekking, you also need the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit.

Restricted Area Permits

Regions like Mustang and Manaslu require Restricted Area Permits. While the standard Everest Base Camp trek doesn't require this, other remote Everest expedition routes might.

Keep Copies

Always carry multiple passport-sized photos and copies of your passport. You will pass several checkpoints where these documents are checked during your Everest trekking journey.
