Gurung Heritage and Avalanche Views
This short trek takes you to Sikles and Kapuche Lake. It is claimed to be the lowest altitude glacial lake, offering glacial views without the extreme altitude of an Everest expedition.
Sikles is a well-preserved Gurung village. It serves as a great introduction to hill culture, different from the high-altitude Sherpa settlements of Everest trekking.
The lake is crystal clear and sits beneath massive peaks. You can often see small avalanches safely from a distance, a dramatic sight similar to the Khumbu Icefall on a Mount Everest expedition.
The trail passes through lush forests. It is a short trek, making it perfect for a quick escape, unlike the multi-week commitment of Everest trekking.
For a low-altitude trek that still offers high-mountain drama and glacial lakes, Sikles and Kapuche is a fantastic alternative to the Everest region.
