Gym Training for the Mount Everest Expedition
If you don't live near mountains, how do you train for Everest? The StairMaster. It is the closest gym machine to the reality of Everest trekking.
Don't just step; step with a pack. Wear your boots and a backpack with 10kg. This conditions your calves and shoulders for the load you will carry to Everest Base Camp.
Build up to doing 60 minutes continuous stepping. Keep the pace moderate but steady. This builds the aerobic base needed for the long ascents like Tengboche hill.
Don't lean on the handrails. That cheats the core and legs. Balance yourself. This mimics the uneven terrain of the Mount Everest expedition trail.
