Three Passes Trek: The Ultimate Everest Trekking Circuit

Crossing Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La

Beyond Base Camp

The Three Passes Trek is widely considered the best trekking route in the Khumbu. It connects the major valleys, crossing three high passes over 5,000m. It offers the most complete tour of the Mount Everest expedition region.

Kongma La

The first pass, Kongma La, is the highest and wildest. It drops you directly into the Khumbu valley near the Mount Everest summit approach. It is rugged and often requires navigation skills.

Cho La

Connecting EBC to Gokyo, Cho La involves crossing a glacier. It is the busiest of the three but offers iconic views. Micro-spikes are often needed here during your Everest trekking adventure.

Renjo La

The final pass offers arguably the best view of Everest, looking back over the Gokyo lakes. It is a stunning farewell to the high mountains before descending to Thame.

For the Fit and Adventurous

This trek is harder than standard Everest Base Camp but infinitely more rewarding. It is the gold standard for non-technical Everest trekking.
