Tips for Female Trekkers on Expeditions
While most gear is unisex, female trekkers face specific challenges on a Mount Everest expedition. From hygiene to fit, having the right kit makes the trek much more enjoyable.
A urinary device (like a Shewee) allows you to pee standing up. This is a game-changer when wearing a harness or when it’s freezing outside on the Everest Base Camp trail.
Tampons and pads are hard to find in the mountains. Bring a supply or consider a menstrual cup (practice before you go!). Carry ziplock bags to pack out waste, as there are no bins.
Bring moisture-wicking sports bras. Cotton stays wet and gets cold. You won't shower every day, so having breathable, quick-dry underwear is essential for hygiene.
With a little extra planning, women can conquer the Everest trekking trails with confidence and comfort.
