Take a breathtaking morning flight to Jomsom, the gateway to Upper Mustang. Begin your trek to Kagbeni, a vibrant village where Tibetan culture is alive, and explore monasteries and narrow alleyways before settling in a cozy teahouse.

Follow the trail along the Kali Gandaki River, passing through Tangbe and Chele villages. Cross fields of barley and wheat, admire Nilgiri Mountain, and arrive in Chussang, a small settlement at the confluence of rivers.

Climb gradually into the barren Trans-Himalayan landscape, cross deep canyons, and walk past towering cliffs. Arrive in Samar with stunning views of Mount Annapurna and the surrounding desert-like terrain.

Begin your return journey, trekking past Drakmar and the Gyokar Gompa. Descend along alpine meadows and ridges, enjoying panoramic views, before reaching Ghami for the night.

Continue trekking along the barren landscapes, descend and climb steep switchbacks, and arrive in Syangboche. Explore the surroundings and interact with the local community.

Retrace your steps through charming villages and valleys, enjoying sweeping views of the Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri ranges, before reaching Chussang for an overnight stay.

The Upper Mustang trek is a journey through Nepal’s restricted Trans-Himalayan region, exploring high desert landscapes, ancient Tibetan-style villages, monasteries, and the walled city of Lo-Manthang.
Typically, the trek takes 15 to 17 days including travel, trekking, rest days, and acclimatization.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal for clear skies, mild temperatures, and spectacular mountain views.
While previous trekking experience helps, the trek is suitable for moderately fit adventurers. Trails can be steep, rocky, and high-altitude, so physical fitness is essential.
The highest point is Lo-Manthang at 3,780 m, with other high passes such as Yamda La and Nyi Pass ranging around 3,850–4,010 m.
A special restricted area permit for Upper Mustang is mandatory (USD 500 for the first 10 days), along with Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit and TIMS card.
Tea houses and lodges are available along the trail. These are basic with shared bathrooms, simple beds, and local meals. Hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara are standard tourist category.
Licensed guides are highly recommended for navigation and cultural insights. Porters can be hired at extra cost.
Altitude sickness is less severe than Everest treks but can occur. Proper acclimatization, hydration, and awareness of symptoms are essential.
Warm clothing, trekking boots, sleeping bag, trekking poles, sun protection, personal medications, first aid kit, and snacks are recommended.
